During the pandemic we renovated our basement. We needed the extra room since I would be working from home.

Our basement is approximately 1200 square feet. We renovated/finished 1,024 square feet. The rest was mechanical/unfinished areas. We hired an architect to prepare plans for $3,000. With our plans in hand, we set out to obtain estimates for the work. Below we will share some of the costs and materials we used.
We hired a carpenter / contractor to frame, insulate and essentially finish the basement for $31,000. This included framing, ROCKWOOL insulation/ sounding proofing throughout the basement ceiling, drywall, several interior doors, spackle, sanding and paint. It also included installation of a bathroom with shower. The work for the bathroom included install of the toilet, vanity/ sink, faucet, tile shower and installation of some shelving.
We hired a plumber to handle all the plumbing for the kitchenette area, laundry and bathroom. The cost was $6500. This included installation of the pit for the fixtures (shower, toilet, washing machine, dishwasher and sinks). Installation of the shower diverter, toilet, faucets, dishwasher, washer and dryer.
We chose to tile the floor. The installation cost $5,500. The tile cost $3178. We chose a large porcelain tile with the look of wood. The tile was purchased at Floor & Décor: 12×59 Woodville Natural Porcelain tile. Grout cost approximately $60 for two bags. Use the Chamois color grout (not white).

The bathroom tiles were also purchased at Floor & Décor: the walls and ceiling of shower – 12×24 White Glossy White tiles cost $145; the shower floor – 2” hexagon Bianco Orion polished marble cost $120; and Keracol Sand Avlnche grout 10lb bag $11.

The cabinets in the kitchenette are from Home Depot. They are stock cabinets shaker style. The cabinets cost $950. Cost to install $600. The granite countertop material and installed cost $800.
The walls are painted with Sherman Williams’ Rock Candy (a very light grey which reflects lots of light). Ceiling and trim are white.
The bathroom vanity and sink were purchased from Home Depot approximately $390.
We hope you enjoyed the pictures and information is helpful to you. If you have any questions about the renovation let us know.
